  1. Every book has a back story. The motivation for my novel “Chasing Mayflies” released by eLectio Publishing last month came out of the experience of watching my father lose a courageous battle with lung cancer. He exemplified for his six children, two dozen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren what a Christ-filled life looks like. While my Dad was the opposite of the main character in the story, he would agree with the central message that it’s never too late to seek forgiveness and the stairs to heaven are built with good works. The good thief and the courage of Saint Peter are central in this story of redemption which is wrapped in humor. Reviews to date on Amazon have been stellar.

A little about me. I am grateful for my Catholic education and graduated with a B.A in English from Merrimack College and earned an M.B.A from Rivier University. For the past twenty-seven years, I worked for an innovative life sciences company which enables bio-pharmaceutical companies to develop and manufacture life-saving therapeutics. I held a number of senior leadership roles before retiring this year.

I also have had a life-long passion for creative writing. Two of my novels reached the quarter finalist stage in the highly competitive “Amazon Breakthrough Novel” contest. Lessons learned propelled Chasing Mayflies to runner-up status for the Tuscany Prize for Catholic fiction in 2014. The true prize however proved to be the honor of working with award-winning editor Natalie Hanemann and eLectio Publishing in bringing the novel to its full potential.

I have an article coming out this month on catholicmom.com as it’s a relevant novel in this year of mercy. I have also been in contact with Bishop-elect Reed and will join him later this year on Catholic TV to discuss the novel. I would be delighted to be featured and promoted on your site.

    Kind regards,

    Vin

  3. My debut novel Close to the Soul will be released on Amazon on May 1. Pre-order of the kindle edition ranked me #1 on Amazon’s list of Religious Historical Fiction New Releases.

Close to the Soul tells the story of Carolyn Fandel, a young Catholic teen who was raped by someone she trusts. Her faith and her resiliency shine throughout the story, even when she is confronted by her rapist a second time. Set in the era of the Vietnam war and the new feminism, Close to the Soul will have readers crying and cheering for Carolyn, as she strikes out in independence and uses her tragedy to help hundreds of others, some of whom she will never meet.

The story weaves Catholicism throughout. It is pro-life and pro-Theology of the Body and pro-natural fertility awareness. Steven R. McEvoy of Books Reviews and More said this about Close to the Soul, “Wow! Christian Fiction at its best. Excellent Catholic literature.”

  4. We all experience suffering. But not like Joe B.

Joseph Brescia is the toast of New York City, a lighthearted CEO beloved by bureaucrats and bartenders and beggars alike.

But Joe’s joy has attracted some dangerous attention. The devil himself has taken notice. And now he’s obsessed with getting Joe to renounce his faith.

Satan challenges God to a wager for Joe’s soul. ‘Unleash hell’ is no longer a figure of speech.

All of heaven and hell watch as Joe’s happy life is systematically destroyed. A broken man must decide how to react to his sufferings – and determine the winner of the wager.

This is the ancient Book of Job reimagined. It’s not a story of why bad things happen to good people.

The truth is much more demanding than that. . .

    . . . and much more beautiful.

Father Anthony Federico is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford.

  5. For four years I lived in southern rural Japan, where I was inspired by the small but devout Catholic community there. I was particularly fascinated by the events of the Shimabara Rebellion, a 17th century uprising of Christian peasants and samurai during a time of harsh persecution. One of the leaders of this rebellion, a 16-year-old samurai named Shiro Amakusa, is someone about whom still relatively little is known. I set out to write a work of historical fiction that blends actual characters and events with my own experiences and Japanese ethnic background. The result, entitled Masaru, was recently released by Arx Publishing. The story seeks to entertain as well as inform about matters of the faith. Much of the dialog in the book was inspired by class discussions with my students when I taught high school Theology. If you’re interested in history and Japanese culture, you’ll find this story especially interesting, but I believe it really has something for everyone. Check out my website for a “sneak peek” at Chapter 1!

  6. My work of historical fiction, Masaru, is based on the events of the Shimabara Rebellion in 17th century Japan, and the person of Shiro Amakusa, a young Catholic samurai who helped lead the cause. It was released by Arx Publishing last month. Please see link below for a brief interview about the book.

  7. Lovebird at Sea by Diana Ragsdale

My book is truly Catholic because the characters embrace their Catholic faith and my book teaches Catholic messages.

    Synopsis:
After a tragic accident that leaves Hazel Blume, with a lame leg and her mother gone, Hazel must learn to heal and grow into adulthood. However what Hazel truly wants to find is love and she just might, but it may not be what she expects.

“Lovebird at Sea” is a sweet young adult Catholic romance and faith journey that will leave the reader smiling and seeing if they can follow God in their own lives just a little bit better.

  8. This past June, I published my debut crime/mystery novel titled Satan’s Choir. I grew up in a devoutly Catholic family. Three of my aunts were nuns, one uncle was a priest, and one uncle was a brother. I attended 12 years of Catholic school, and, like my three brothers, was an altar boy. Over the years, like many writers, I have supported himself with different jobs–as a carpenter, machinist, journalist, and as a musician and a Nashville songwriter. My writing has appeared in Yale Literary Magazine, Bluegrass Unlimited, Basketball Weekly and elsewhere. I hope you will consider listing my book. You can find more info about me at my website listed below.

    About Satan’s Choir:

When the battered remains of a priest are discovered at the bottom of a lake, Dayton homicide detective John Burke is mystified. Who would murder a priest? Why were the initial inquiries abandoned so long ago when the man went missing? Burke’s search for a suspect leads him down a dark rabbit hole of intrigue, into his own mysterious past, as he investigates the case.

“Satan’s Choir is a riveting account of the complicated and often uncomfortable effort to uncover abuse within the Catholic Church. Vivid writing and lively story-telling move this engaging novel along toward its surprising but wholly believable climax.”
    – Allan Winkler, Distinguished Professor of History Emeritus at Miami University
    ***
“Satan’s Choir is a finely crafted page-turner teeming with significance as its stirring narrative brings alive the moral complexities of unearthing long-buried secrets, especially those of the Catholic Church. With an ear for dialogue and an eye for well-designed suspense, Tom Harley Campbell has given us a novel with a smartly woven tapestry of recognizable yet surprising events and truly memorable characters.”
    – Ann Hagedorn, author of Wild Ride, Ransom, Beyond the River, Savage Peace, The Invisible Soldiers, and Sleeper Agent.

As the men face their imminent deaths, they must reckon with their physical decline at the same time as they ponder what may come after their physical lives end.
